Salida offers world reknowned Arkansas river rafting, fishing, biking, hiking, rock climbing at Shelf Road in the summer. In the winter there are a host of options for snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hunting near town and it is a great place to stay when skiing at Monarch Ski Area which boasts some of the state's highest snowfall totals.
It makes a great base for Shavano (is skiing the Angel on your list this spring?), Tabeguache, Antero and Mt. Princeton. If you enjoy high 13ers, Stay in Salida after your hike of Mt. Ouray. Originally inhabited by the Ute Indians, this town has a lot of history. The Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center is an excellent place to unwind after playing hard all day.
