Hi and welcome to 14erFun.com!!!

This site has been authored by and is maintained by Jeff Lord and Deborah Romero.

Jeff was born in Madison, Wisconsin and grew up hiking, climbing, canoeing and camping with his family all over the U.S. and in Mexico. His passion for backcountry adventure is unbridled. Though not a professional guide, he almost invariably finds himself in the leader’s role on group trips and adventures.

Deborah was born in Boulder, Colorado and has had a love for the mountains since she was a child hiking in the hills of southern Colorado with her grandparents, searching for arrowheads, catching lizards and identifying wildflowers. She’s been a competitive athlete her entire life.

Through almost 25 years together, Jeff and Deborah have participated in national class road bicycle racing, mountain biking, hiking, skiing at resorts, by helicopter and in the backcountry, river trips in Utah, Colorado and Montana, alpine mountaineering, technical rock and snow climbing. Their adventures have spanned the U.S. (including Hawaii), Canada and Mexico.

They have just completed a 15 year quest to climb all of the 14ers in Colorado. They’ve repeated many of Colorado’s Peaks via different routes including...
the Holy Cross Couloir on Mount of the Holy Cross,
the Bell Cord Couloir (up and down) on the Maroon Bells,
the Kelso Ridge, Tuning Fork, and Dead Dog Couloir on Torreys Peak,
the Aprons, North Face and Sunrise Couloir on Mt. Evans,
ski descents of the Angel of Shavano and the Cristo Couloir on Quandary Peak,
the North Face-Cables Route on Longs Peak,
the Lost Rat Couloir on Grays Peak,
and the Sawtooth Ridge on Mt. Bierstadt.

Over the years they have come to learn that it’s not just about bagging a peak, but about experiencing and soaking up the whole journey. They have, individually and collectively discovered a spiritual connection with the mountains. Among their hobbies is the practice of stopping at old cemeteries and antique shops in the little towns on the way to 14er trailheads. For Deborah and Jeff, the history, geography and geology of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain west has become almost as much a passion as climbing mountains.

Many of the most impressive photos on this site were taken by Steve Marcantonio and/or James Pauly. Both Steve and Jim have been and continue to be companions on many of our adventures and have themselves amassed a wealth of backcountry experience. Steve is an award winning photographer, published author and Luminous World Photography's lead photographer. Visit Luminous World Photography at: http://luminousphotos.com.
